Bringing in the youngsters

Just remembering the first time I rode the Peaks, horizontal hailstorm on the summits at age 16, as they say, "character building" ! Think it was 81? Finished and probably said never again, but... !
Anyone know the minimum age to compete? I'm sure it changed after that year. I've a mad keen step son who's 16 next year, can he compete and say "never again"!?

1981 was the worse year, similar to last year but colder.
The minimum age is 17 but 16 if their 17th birthday is before the end of the year. This year juniors born in 1996 will be eligible.

Likewise, I rode in 1980 aged 16 and loved it!

Perfect weather, so I was lucky.

(Un)fortunately I discovered girls, beer and then cars, so life changed rapidly - away from cyclo-cross.

33 years later, my 7-year-old son returned home from cycle club at school and announced that he would like to enter the race that his teacher was organising the following Sunday. Turns out it was the Dartmouth Cyclo-Cross. He's now three races into the season and loving it!
