Nervous?

Postby lanterne rouge » Sat Sep 29, 2012 3:00 pm

Anyone else nervous? I'm far from a first timer - in fact I've resolved that if I get round tomorrow it will be my last time - but I'm feeling incredibly nervous. Most worried about missing the cut off at Horton - that would be heartbreaking.

Once the flag goes down the nerves are a distant memory. Hope you beat the cut-off time and happy retirement. ;)

Thank you. Hope you manage to follow the race online - it's probably easier than following it when you're there!

Sitting in pub in Settle contemplating tomorrow. Ingleborough looked great this afternoon. Like last year, that'll probably be last time it's out of the clouds :-( Not nervous, just that wonderful pre-race excitement. I'm same age as race and couldn't resist entering one more (last?) time!

I was born two months before the first race! Must be that which keeps me coming back!

Ha - 3 months before! Did my first event going round with my dad before I was old enough to enter and then first proper race 30 years ago. I suggested that 50 year olds should have a special category and a (very large) head start but the idea didn't catch on!

Both times i've ridden, age 40 and 43, i've had my ass kicked by guys in their 60's and 70's. I love that, it means I have years yet to practice. Just wish west cornwall wasnt so far away and diesel so pricey other i'd be there every year.

If I don't get back before, i'm definitely there in 4 years when i'm 50.

Thanks, Nikki. Yes, I hope to be back. Thanks also for riding back with me - though I could barely move up the hills! It was nice to have someone to chat to.
And it wasn't heartbreaking to miss the cut off; it had become inevitable.

Richard, I did manage to get round but about 40min slower than last year. Going up Pen-y-Ghent I distinctly remember thinking that missing the cut-off would have been quite attractive! Someone said at the finish it was worst weather since 1981. Maybe that was the year I first did it properly as I remember being extremely wet and cold then. Come to think of it, I've never seen the top of Ingleborough. Perhaps I should call it a day and then you'd all get good weather!
