Clinchers with tubes or sealant, or Tubs?

This years will be my 1st race, i have a set of tub wheels and a set of clinchers i can use, i wont have any support, so no spare wheels......

Everyone says go Land Cruisers, but they look like they have zero tread on them at all, so would be looking for something with a bit more aggressive tread pattern but with good puncture resistance, any reccomendations?

But, if i go Tubs, ive been told that people get good results using Tufo tubs, as there is no tube to puncture, just use a latex sealant like Stans inside.......

Lastly, as i swear by Stans no tubes on my MTB, so i may try this option with CX tires, anyone tried this option....

There's a thread on the old web forum under equipment - tyres, - lots about land cruisers, do you think someone is on a commission?
I put on quite a bit about trying out a tubeless set up. Getting tubless cross tyres to hold the pressure needed for the road sections(70-80 psi) was the challenge but after teething troubles I have been trialing the set up for about 6 weeks now. My old Scwalbe CX pros were just too breathable so I went for new Hutchninson Pirahnas, a bit too knobly really but like I say, I've been wearing them down for about 6 weeks now. Should be just about right in 3 weeks if this dry weather keeps up. Here's hoping.

The arguments for and against Land Cruisers rages on every year!
Personally, I have tried them, not been sure, tried other tyres (schwalbe racing ralph, maxxis locust...), but always come back to the LCs.
Coming from a mountain biking background the lack of tread was initially a concern. I've found you quickly get used to it's limitations and, unless it is very wet and muddy, it grips fine in the conditions found in the race.
However, LCs are incredibly tough and puncture resistant and roll very fast on the road.
The toughness is the clincher (excuse the pun) for me.
Pump them up hard and be safe in the knowledge that, as you barrel down the rocky descents and bunny hop the drains, you probably won't get a puncture.

Shwalbie CX pros with kenda thorn resistant tubes, heavy but its what I use round the so called red mtb trails!! so bomb proof
I will be running a chunky Kenda Cross supreme(35) on the front for the grip and comfort
a CX pro(30) on the rear not mutch room for the kenda at the rear on my old Alan

There is no ideal tyre !
Landcruisers have worked for me - they are scary on wet grass but fine on the rocky sections of the course.
There is no good test of other set ups I'm afraid - usual trails are not like Whernside!
Pump them up hard and prepare for a serious lack of comfort

Whatever you decide is best (I've used both before) just remember that a few extra lbs of pressure may mean you shake a lot over rocks and might even spin a couple of times on slow grass, but a puncture will use up five minutes at the very least. I use Stans Notubes as a sealant in tubs and have absolutely no idea whether it works or not - but they didn't puncture

Generally you can run tubs a good deal lower pressure than tyres, and they're lighter, and have a larger chamber so are more absorbing, but I still pile them full of air for this race. Punctures are morale-sappers and time wasters.

There is no ideal tyre ! Landcruisers have worked for me -

... and so many other riders I think. Those and Maxxis Locust 35mm seem to roll well and are up to the task.

I will test my combination on the north and south loops at Winlatter next weekend Again!! making sure I find all the pointy slate!!
might head up to Grizdale Pike too from top of the south loop
